Although there's no trace of seaside in Vledder you will find a fascinating place to discover its wonders. The Miramar Sea Museum displays hundreds of treasures collected from the sea. Not only from the North Sea, but from all the waters of the earth. The museum was founded by Jeanne Warner, who collected fanatically the shells, oysters, corals and other finds. The vast collection is on display in a beautiful building. Highlights from the collection include velvet sea mouse, chitons, lump sucker, flying fish and a shell of 200 kilograms.
At the Colonies Yard in Frederiksoord the history of living and working in the colonies awakes under your eyes. The struggle of the 19th century workers for a decent life is vividly reflected by their working tools and personal objects.
The Vledder clock museum displays about 250 watches and timers, many with special mechanics from the period 1500-1950. There are also old clocks and watch making tools to see.
The Gothic church of Vledder was built in the 15th century and unlike other churches in Drenthe this is the only one with stone vaulted choir. Climb up in the tower and enjoy the views!
The Museum of Contemporary Graphics and Glass in Vledder has a permanent and extended collection showing the development of the graphic art with examples of various genres and periods.
The only Fake Art Museum in the world can be found in Vledder. Here you can have a closer look and even touch the Mona Lisa, something you'll never do with the real one in Paris. Everything expensive has been faked: gold jewelry, gemstones, designer clothing, Breitling and Rolex watches, bank notes, coins, Egyptian mummies, rare vases, the diaries of Hitler and of course paintings.
The National Park Dwingelderveld is 3700 ha large, wet heath land, the largest marshland in western Europe. The heath is surrounded by various woods and sand dispersions. The varied natural scenery accommodates a large amount of animals and plants in the area. Biking and hiking trails, nature trails and equestrian trails offer you the opportunity to explore this unique nature park.
On the edge of the National Park Dwingelderveld, you find Planetron Cinedome. A special attraction, just by the design of the building. In this space theater you see the sky and the stars so faithfully that you think you're traveling on a spaceship. Beside the large dome-shaped screen Planetron offers more fun. In the Internet Plaza you can travel through the virtual world over the Internet.
Looking for a place where you can swim, surf and enjoy the sun? The wide beach of Aekingermeer will be your best choice. There is also a playground area available for the children with swings, basketball, volleyball ground and sandpit.
